This week, as the WV Legislative Session enters the home stretch, things are also busy in Washington, DC as Congress works to pass the President's budget.
President Obama included $634 billion in the budget as a down payment on health care reform. This is an historic commitment and a vital first step toward achieving quality, affordable health care for all in 2009. Put simply, Congress must pass a budget that funds health care if we want to enact comprehensive reform this year.
Health Care Reform and President Obama's Budget are intimately entwined. His budget represents a big picture outline of his priorities of expanding health care, investing in education and rebuilding America with a green building infrastructure.
Support is needed in Congress for the president's initiatives. Now that we have the leadership to get the job done, we need to push Congress to support the President.
Please call Senators Byrd and Rockefeller today and ask them to support President Obama's budget. Members of Congress are saying that they are not hearing a lot from their constituents about the budget.
For health care reform to succeed, it needs to be in the budget.
Thank you for your support!
