Ask Congress To Support Verified Voting

The 2010 elections are approaching, and once again we are confronted with the fact that millions of votes in America cannot be verified, audited, or recounted. Next year, over 10 states, including Virginia, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Texas, will see most votes cast on electronic voting machines - unless we persuade Congress to take action.

You can help. We have made a great deal of progress toward verifiable and trustworthy elections, but it is long past time for this situation to end. Please tell your Representative to support the Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act of 2009. Visit our Action Center to send a letter urging passage of HR 2894:

http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/199/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=27619

HR 2894 would establish a national standard requiring voter-marked paper ballots, so that audits and recounts are possible. Jurisdictions using voting machines with a cash-register "paper trail" printer would have until 2014 to convert to paper ballot voting. Jurisdictions where voting machines do not offer any kind of paper trail would have to convert to paper ballots by 2010.  The bill would require hand-counted audits of electronic vote tallies in all federal elections, would offer funding for non-proprietary accessible voting systems,  would ban wireless communication by voting systems, and other important reforms.

Thanks!
