Observance of International Human Rights Day

Monday, December 10 at 1 p.m., member organizations of the West Virginia AFL-CIO, West Virginia Citizen Action and West Virginians United for Social and Economic Justice will gather in the upper rotunda of the State Capitol in observance of International Human Rights Day.

The 2012 observance will focus on the showdown in Washington concerning the budget and the major legislative decisions our Congressional representatives have to make during the lame-duck session.

A 3 ft by 5 ft petition to Senator Joe Manchin will be on display, for all to sign, that urges Senator Manchin to oppose any funding cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.  The petition also asks him to support letting the Bush era tax cuts for wealthy Americans expire, and to support the preservation of tax cuts for middle class and low income families.

The petition will be delivered to Senator Manchin’s Charleston office after the event.

If you cannot attend this event, YOU CAN STILL PARTICIPATE by calling Senator Manchin at 1-888-344-0683. Ask that he let the Bush Tax Cuts for the wealthiest Americans expire and oppose cuts to these vital social programs.
