May 5:  Newly Formed US Green Building Council - WV Chapter Convenes Experts for FREE Local Green Building Workshop, 7:00 PM, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, 301 Piedmont Road, Charleston

The newly formed US Green Building Council - WV Chapter is partnering with BuildGreenWV, WV GreenWorks and the organizers of the Kanawha Valley Sustainability Fair to offer a free green building workshop at Habitat for Humanity ReStore on May 5, 7:00 pm.  The panel features experts in affordable, high performance commercial and residential building who will discuss practical, innovative green building materials, best building practices and specific projects.  Green builders and Home Energy Raters will answer questions about energy efficient home construction, weatherization, and energy audits that qualify for federal incentive programs. Training information will also be provided to union, non-union craft workers and career changers looking for ways to increase skills and marketability in emerging green building and energy efficiency industry sectors.  

One home owner will win a free energy audit performed by WV GreenWorks students (under supervision of a certified HERS professional) studying for the RESNET Home Energy Rater certification between May 17 and May 20, 2010. Details of the audit will be explained at the workshop.

May 12: Health Care Town Hall Meeting, 7:00 - 8:30PM at the Parkersburg City Council Chambers.  , Dr. David Avery, West Virginia Academy of Family Physicians, Fred Earley, President of Mountain State Blue Cross Blue Shield, Gaylene Miller, Senior State Director of AARP West Virginia, and Kenny Perdue, President of the West Virginia AFL-CIO.
