Calls Needed NOW to Pass
House Resolution
Opposing Citizens United vs. FEC
HR8, opposing the Citizens United vs. FEC Supreme Court
ruling, was introduced in the WV House of Delegates on January 20th.
Since then it has languished in the
House Rules Committee.
Tomorrow, Saturday, March 10th is the last day of the legislative
session and we need everyone to make calls today and tomorrow asking
House leadership to put
HR8 on the agenda and pass it. The legislature doesn’t quit until
midnight on Saturday so we still have time to get this passed.
HR8 is “Opposing the United States Supreme Court’s
interpretation of the Constitution in Citizens United regarding the
constitutional rights of corporations, supporting an amendment to the
Constitution to provide that corporations are not entitled to the
entirety of protections or “rights” of natural persons, specifically so
that the expenditure of corporate money to influence the electoral
process is no longer a form of constitutionally protected speech, and
calling on Congress to begin the process of amending the Constitution.”

What you can do to help:
Please call (or e-mail) as many members of the
House leadership as you can, beginning with House Speaker Rick
Thompson and working down the list. If one of the listed
members of Rules is
your delegate, be sure to call them too. Finally please call or
e-mail
your home delegate(s) to ask them to do what they can to get this
passed.
Thanks for taking time to help preserve our democracy!
