Letter Carriers 'Stamp Out Hunger' Food Drive In 2012, the drive, sponsored by the Letter Carriers (NALC), collected more than 70 million pounds of food and it has collected nearly 1.2 billion pounds of food since it began in 1993. Donations are given directly to local food pantries and, in 2012, these donations served some 30 million people. While most food pantries get the bulk of their donations around Christmas and Thanksgiving, the NALC drive is done during the spring, when many food pantries are struggling. To support workers during their upcoming contract negotiations, CWA Local 2001 and other WV Labor Unions are holding a solidarity rally to send a strong message to Frontier that labor is standing together for a fair contract: Thursday May 16, 2001 11:00am-1:00pm, 1500 Mackorkle Avenue, Charleston, WV (In front of the Frontier Building) Speakers will include Ron Collins, CWA Chief of Staff and Ed Mooney, CWA Vice President Locals 2-13. The rally will feature musical entertainment, speakers and lunch! Labor Demonstration at First Energy Shareholder Meeting The Utility Workers of America, and the West Virginia AFL-CIO will be demonstrating against FirstEnergy to protest their attacks on working families, their proposed cutbacks to consumer services and CEO pay schemes that hurt rate payers and shareholders.
