Last Minute Election Day Announcements!

CAG Members:

Today or tomorrow you will be getting a mailing from us asking you to support Justice Warren McGraw for the Supreme Court and Mayor Richie Robb for Governor at the polls. These candidates are just two of the many we are endorsing in the Primary Election, May 11 (next Tuesday)! We are also endorsing Jim Lees as the Democratic candidate for Governor and many candidates for House and Senate races. Please visit our website (see link below) or check out your last issue of the Capital Eye for the complete list! Or give us a call (346-5891!)

We also wanted to let you know that WV-CAG is one of 55 associations and organizations that are partners in the "Every Child Matters in West Virginia" voter education campaign. The purpose of this campaign is to help voters make informed choices about candidates and put children front and center of election conversations. The project does not rate or endorse candidates, but will highlight presidential, gubernatorial and legislative candidates' positions on children's issues and share this information with voters.

The results of the Gubernatorial Candidate Survey are now posted on the Every Child Matters website at www.everychildmatters.org. Simply click on the West Virginia button on the homepage to go the West Virginia portion of the site.

The survey covers several topics including jobs and the economy, child care, welfare reform, health care coverage, child protective services, domestic violence, the Governor's Cabinet on Children and Families, college attendance rates and after school programs. Please take a few minutes to check out the website and help spread the word about this worthwhile campaign.

There were seven candidate responses to the survey. Democratic candidates who responded include Jerry Baker, Lloyd Jackson, Jim Lees and Joe Manchin. Republican candidates who responded include Douglas McKinney, James Radcliffe, Jr., and Richard Robb.

WV-CAG is also a proud member of Citizens for Clean Elections, a coalition of 27 organizations which support the Clean Elections concept of financing for election campaigns. Citizens for Clean Elections recently sent a survey to candidates for Governor and Secretary of State asking them if they would support the "WV Public Campaign Financing Act." Want to know how they responded? Check out the results.
