Community Air Monitoring

West Virginia Citizen Action coordinates the Empower WV initiative to scale up air monitoring and democratize access to air quality data across the state. We have installed dozens of sensors in the Kanawha Valley, along the Ohio River, in Southern WV, in Tucker County, and beyond! We use low-cost air quality sensors, specifically PurpleAir Flex sensors, to test for particulate matter and volatile organic compounds. Data is transmitted in real-time to the PurpleAir map. We are always looking for new air quality hosts to train to become community scientists. Contact climate@wvcag.org if you want to learn more or get involved!
