As the opioid crisis has turned into a full-blown national public health epidemic, these same companies have sought profit from treating overdoses and addiction, investing in for-profit treatment facilities and drugs to treat overdoses, as well as in cannabinoids, which are increasingly being permitted for medical use despite a federal prohibition on recreational marijuana.
