Dear Friends,
Last week, we woke up to very difficult news. Many of us are still reeling from the election outcomes and, understandably, grappling with various emotions—from sadness to anger to hopelessness and despair. However you’re feeling, we want you to know you’re not alone.
The urge to give up hits hard for those who work for equity and justice. However, our friends, family, neighbors, and communities need us now more than ever! We must stand together to protect and defend our people.
While we all need to reflect on why this outcome came about, we know people wanted change in this election. We deserve a brighter future and will continue working toward it together. Communities like ours across the nation chose populist policies while electing politicians who would do the opposite, pointing to a deep divide between what voters want from government and who they vote for. This gap can be bridged with organizing and conversation.
We may have dark days ahead, but we shouldn’t accept what Trump and his associates in West Virginia have promised to do and where they want to take the state and nation as inevitable.
We’re not giving up. We are rising to the moment and doubling down on what really works: organizing people to make real change. This means ensuring you have the resources to organize at the local level around what matters to you. We invite you to attend one of our upcoming committee meetings or trainings:
- Virtual Healthcare Committee Meeting on Nov. 20. Learn more and register here.
- Virtual Climate Committee Meeting on Dec. 11. Learn more and register here.
- Host or request a Fundamentals of Organizing in your area. Sign up to learn more here.
After last week, it’s okay to feel any number of things right now. Remember, it’s crucial that we all take care of ourselves. But our struggle for liberty, justice, and democracy for all requires our committed, connected, continuous engagement.
Our values, families, communities, and futures are worth fighting for. We are worth fighting for.
In solidarity,
— WV Citizen Action
PS: In January, we’ll bring our members and supporters together to celebrate 50 years of Citizen Action. We hope you can join us to celebrate our accomplishments, look to the future, and continue the work needed to improve the lives of West Virginians and ensure our people are safe, healthy, and prosperous. Get your tickets now or make an end-of-year donation to help fuel the fight ahead. Keep hope alive with your financial support. We need you with us!
