The Legislature’s tax scheming continues with the Senate’s new “compromise” plan—which isn’t a compromise at all. Deals were made behind closed doors and without the input of rank and file members. It includes a rehashing of Amendment 2, which voters defeated overwhelmingly at the ballot last year, and triggers to eventually eliminate the personal income tax altogether.

This would be devastating to all West Virginians when it blows holes in the budget, forcing more and more income tax cuts for the wealthy. Instead, we should be investing in health care, public education, infrastructure, and other public services.
