Charleston, WV:  On Thursday, September 16th, residents of Charleston and surrounding areas, will join activists at a Banner Drop rally outside of Sen. Shelley Moore Capito’s office to demonstrate the widespread popular support for the $3.5T Reconciliation package. It’s one  of a number of rotating weekly events happening  outside her office since August. Advocates from West Virginia Sierra Club, WV Citizen Action Group, SEIU 1199 and WV Working Families will urge Senator Capito to take a once in a generation opportunity to invest in our democracy, infrastructure, and environmental sustainability as the Senate gets back to work after recess. .

“Why do Republicans only worry about the deficit when lawmakers  want to invest in ordinary people? Proposed programs like the Civilian Climate Corps will improve the quality of life in so many ways. These investments will pay huge dividends. Failure to invest in jobs, infrastructure, clean energy, clean water and education is the ultimate burden on our children. Senators Capito and Manchin could be seen as heroes in future history books if they have the courage to vote for investment in our people,” said Betsy Lawson, WV Sierra Club.

“This is a historic time in our nation when we can advance policies that lift up and support working families for generations. We can pay for this Reconciliation package by making millionaires, billionaires and multinational corporations pay their fair share instead of dodging their tax responsibilities,” said Gary Zuckett, WV Citizen Action Group

“For far too long, Senator Capito has turned her back on the critical needs of West Virginians. We know that bridges and roads are not enough and right now Senator Capito has a clear path to vote yes on $3.5T to move our people and state forward,” said Alex Gallo, WV Working Families Party.
