WV Citizen Action Group to Rally at AETNA office to Demand Corporations Provide Care Reverse Denied Claims

AETNA‘s Profits Rely on Denying Members Health Care

Charleston, WVWEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 11 at 11:30am, WV Citizen Action Group, People’s Action, WV Poor People’s Campaign, Rise Up WV, New Economy Works WV and others will hold a rally outside of the private health insurer AETNA’s offices, located at 500 Virginia St. East, Charleston, WV 25311, to demand the corporation stop denying care to its members and put people over profit. The rally will be one of 14 events happening nationally led by Care Over Cost. AETNA is part of the private health insurance industry, whose business model relies on denying members the treatments and medicines they deserve. “Revenues at the healthcare benefits segment, Aetna, were $23 billion in the fourth quarter, up from $20.7 billion in the prior year quarter. For the full year 2022, Aetna brought in $91.4 billion in revenue, an increase of almost $10 billion from 2021’s $82.9 billion haul. Both represent increases of about 11%” according to an article in Fierce Healthcare.

WHAT: #CareOverCost Healthcare Demonstration

WHEN: Wednesday, October 11 at 11:30am

WHERE: 500 Virginia St E, Charleston, WV

WHY: Greedy executives at private health insurance corporations refuse to pay for care when their policyholders need it most through claims or prior authorization denial. Private insurance companies deny well over 248 million claim or prior-authorization requests annually. AETNA is part of that profit-obsessed system, and WVCAG is fighting back with other Care Over Cost member organizations across the country to expose their scheme, win justice for people now, and demand systemic reform so people can get the care they need when they need it without the obstacle of profiteering.

WV Citizen Action Group is a member of People’s Action Care Over Cost campaign that organizes people across the country to appeal and overturn insurance claim denials from private health insurers and to get people the care they need. In June, Care Over Cost held a direct action with 1,000 at the headquarters of America’s Health Insurance Plans, one of the biggest lobbyists for private health insurers.
