Morgan King: Holding Polluters Accountable in West Virginia

This week, we’re highlighting two important pieces featuring Morgan King, WV CAG’s Climate and Energy Program Manager, that cut through the hype around so-called “economic development” and focus on what really matters: public health, transparency, and community power.

In her commentary in the West Virginia Watch, “Garbage Wars 2.0: More False Promises of Economic Development in West Virginia,” King traces today’s push for “advanced recycling” back to the landfill battles of the past. She shows how plastic incineration is being repackaged as progress, despite mounting debt, shifting timelines, weak financials, and serious environmental risks. Drawing on SEC filings and public records, King argues that West Virginians are once again being asked to shoulder the costs while out-of-state companies reap the profits.

In another article by Public News Service, “West Virginia Pushes to Improve Air Quality Monitoring,” King explains why stronger, community-based air monitoring is essential, especially in regions with little or no reliable data. She urges lawmakers to expand access to transparent, local air quality information so families can better protect their health.

West Virginians deserve policies that put people first.
