State of WV Children and Families
In response to the Governor’s State of the State address, groups gathered at the capitol to speak on the budget, and how the status quo is hurting WV children and families.
“After four years of flat budgets failing to keep pace with the needs of West Virginians, Governor Jim Justice has promised another year of the same.
This means another year of failing to keep up with inflation and continuing to underfund children’s programs, PEIA, public employee salaries, and more – much less having the resources necessary to make new investments in programs that serve West Virginians.
Instead of presenting a budget that meets the needs of all West Virginians, Governor Justice has committed to personal income tax cuts that will disproportionately benefit the wealthiest in our state.
Years of flat budgets don’t exist without consequences. They harm all West Virginians, particularly children, working families, and communities of color who have all seen their communities underinvested in over recent years.
West Virginians deserve a budget that works for the people.”
This event was hosted by the NAACP of West Virginia on Thursday, January 12th, 2022 and cosponsored by WVCAG, WVCBP, WVEA, AFSC, WV Council of Churches, Prevent Child Abuse of WV, TEAM For WV Children, Tuesday Morning Group, and others.
