CAG is pleased to welcome Katie Blount as our new Movement Politics Director! Born and raised in Elkins and a graduate of WVU, she is a Mountaineer at heart. She spent most of her time involved in all forms of Appalachian dance and could often be found anywhere near the Augusta Heritage Center.
“It’s truly been a dream of mine to bring what I’ve learned back to the Mountain State. I’ve been a huge vocal advocate throughout the years for people staying in WV. This is the perfect time to practice what I preach. I’m honored to join the amazing CAG team and fight for sustainable futures for both the land and her inhabitants.
I’ve seen firsthand the destruction of both the land and the living conditions of West Virginians. Movement politics allows for me to collaborate with ongoing initiatives and build on the work that’s already been started to address these issues.”
Prior to her role with CAG, Katie was heavily involved in electoral politics in Tennessee and participated in progressive movements, including being a part of the planning committee for Nashville’s Women’s March. Katie most recently worked as TN State Rep. Jason Hodges’ campaign manager and created and implemented a candidate/staffer training program. Before that, she worked at WPBS-DT in Upstate NY coordinating events and fundraisers.
