Now Hiring: Climate Coordinator

West Virginia Citizen Action is seeking a Climate Project Manager to support members of the West Virginia Climate Alliance to maximize long-term impact and sustainability of climate organizing throughout West Virginia. The position focuses on collaborative development/execution of strategies and campaigns that build public support for science-driven climate action to conserve watersheds, habitat, and wildlife; promote public health; and account and mitigate for the impact of energy transitions on West Virginia workers and communities.

This position manages the operations of the WV Climate Alliance, leads strategic buildout of collaborative organizing strategies/campaigns. The overall intent of the position is to grow and mobilize a base of support in West Virginia to move the needle on priority climate policy issues through education and advocacy.

The WV Climate Alliance involves 20 organizations working together to educate and activate West Virginians on climate impacts and solutions.

The Climate Project Manager is a full-time, remote working position with a strong preference for West Virginia residents. On occasion, work will involve hours outside of a conventional 9-5 schedule, including evening meetings, weekend events, and overnight travel.

WV Climate Alliance Coordination

Alliance coordination. Convene, facilitate and document meetings and activities of the coordinating committee, full Alliance, and ad hoc workgroups. Support the Alliance in following its established operating guidelines.

Coordinated actions. As the need arises, support mobilization of organizational actions related to policy priorities.

Strategic Planning

Goal-setting. Lead the Alliance’s strategic planning to set short-term and long-term goals, as well as the theories of change to guide collaborative work.

Strategy development. Develop strategies and coordinate activities to achieve identified goals.

Work plans. Maintain regular communication with partners (and home office) to assure project/campaign work plans are progressing efficiently and effectively.

Capacity Building

Base-building. Coordinate project strategies to strengthen collective capacity for base-building efforts, including but not limited to: recruitment, training, coaching program for organizers; evaluation of pilot base-building initiatives; development of collaborative base-building strategies across the climate organizer cohort.

Stakeholder engagement. Cultivate existing relationships with project partners. Identify additional partners and stakeholders, and follow up as needed.

Project Tracking and Reporting

General project management. Manage work plans and reporting on tasks. Prepare project budgets and monitor project expenses.

Administrative tasks. Maintain timesheets, submit required documentation for out-of-pocket reimbursements, maintain all work products on cloud-based shared drive, other duties as assigned.

 

 Qualifications

  • A commitment to relational work and experience in building and managing partnerships.
  • Previous coalition building, community organizing, or campaign management experience are desired.
  • Background in and/or interest and ability to learn about policies and legislation related to climate and public health.
  • Excellent written and oral communications and meeting facilitation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products; working understanding of, or ability to learn, cloud-based applications like Google Workspace, Zoom/Meet, and WordPress.
  • General comfort and confidence with working in technologies designed for remote working environments.
  • Valid WV driver’s license and ability to travel outside of regular business hours as needed.
  • A commitment to equity and justice and to supporting individual and organizational growth in this area.
  •  A strong passion for climate justice.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $45,000 – $55,000 and is dependent upon experience and qualifications. This is designed as a full-time, salaried position, though a contractual arrangement could be negotiated.
