Public Comment on WVDEP Rules with Federal Counterparts

A bill passed during the 2016 legislative session (SB 619) required state agencies determine whether their rules, policies and recommendations are more stringent than their federal counterparts. In its review, the DEP identified several rules that affect water quality, including the mechanism and process that is currently used for developing and updating West Virginia water quality standards. During the public comment period, we joined the WV Rivers Coalition and others in submitting comments to the DEP, which is required to file a final report with the Legislature on Nov. 1.
