Contact Senator Capito to help end Child Hunger!
The summer is in full swing and Congress is moving quickly to make important decisions about our country’s priorities. The Senate Appropriations subcommittee tasked with the Women, Infants, and Children Program (WIC) is expected to make recommendations soon about funding for the program. The full Senate Appropriations Committee will then consider the program and make its recommendations to the full Senate. Our junior Senator Shelley Moore Capito sits on this important committee.
WIC is an extremely successful preventative program providing low-income pregnant women, new mothers, infants and children with nutritious foods, nutrition education, improved access to health care, and breastfeeding support. With child poverty increasing in West Virginia and the nation its critical to keep WIC fully funded! The House has already proposed cuts to funding and the Senate’s decision will need to counter that move.
Nearly 8 million women and children in our country are supported by WIC.

Fully funding this program means not only ensuring critical food for pregnant women, babies, and young children, but also things like additional support for breastfeeding mothers and streamlining the program by transitioning to electronic benefits.
