Show Up. Speak Out.
The annual “Tank Bill” is moving, and it’s dangerous. SB 592—set for a hearing today, April 7, at 3 pm in the House Energy Committee—would remove nearly 1,000 oil, gas, and coal tanks from the inspection list mandated by the Aboveground Storage Tank Act.
This includes tanks like the one that caused the 2014 Elk River chemical spill, which contaminated the drinking water of over 300,000 people. Read a SB 592 fact sheet here.
We need your voice—right now—to help stop this bill:
- Attend the hearing in person: Pack the room! They will be meeting at 3 pm in the House Finance Committee Room 460M. If you or someone you know can speak at the State Capitol, reply to this email immediately—we’ll try to help you get on the witness list.
- Submit a written comment: Send your testimony now to energy.publicworks@wvhouse.gov
- Call and email your lawmakers: Let them know you oppose SB 592. Find committee members phone numbers here. And send a letter to your delegate here.
Let’s not repeat history. Tell lawmakers: Our drinking water must be protected. No on SB 592.
Thank you for taking action—your voice matters.
