House Democrats Pass Historic Bill To Increase Health Care Access and Affordability, Lower Drug Prices and Tax the Rich and Corporations More Fairly
In response to today’s passage of the Build Back Better Act by House Democrats in Congress today, Gary Zuckett, Exec. Director of WV Citizen Action issued the following statement:
“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats including deserve our thanks and recognition for the tremendous effort it took to reach a successful compromise on this historic bill. This bill won’t solve every problem and doesn’t include everything that Americans support, but the Build Back Better package is a huge step forward. It could also be called the lower drug prices bill, making the rich and corporations pay fair share bill, and making healthcare and education more affordable bill.
These and other policies in Build Back Better are extremely popular with the public. They’ll improve millions of lives, rebalance the economy and enable many more people to have a fair shot at prosperity, security and mobility.
This legislation, if passed by the Senate, will take our country in a better direction by stopping unfair tax breaks for the rich and corporations, making drug corporations negotiate prices for the first time, and ensuring that everyone has access to the basics, from affordable premiums and medicines to childcare, eldercare and paid family medical leave.
Now, it’s up to Senator Manchin to work with his colleagues to pass the Build Back Better bill so Democrats can deliver on their promises for the people of West Virginia and across America.”
