Poll Workers Power Our Democracy

By Julie Archer, WV CAG Deputy Director, and our partners at Power the Polls

In every city and local jurisdiction, election administrators need poll workers to keep polling places open, help their neighbors vote, and ensure every voter has access to the ballot box. WV CAG is partnering with Power the Polls this election cycle to recruit a new wave of poll workers.

Poll workers help elections run smoothly by keeping polling locations open, ensuring technology works, and helping voters who may need additional support at the polls.

Everyone should be able to easily access what they need for a secure and efficient voting experience. That’s why poll workers are so important – they can make a difference in how voters experience the polls and participate in our democracy.

Serving as a poll worker is a great way to give back to your community, support your neighbors, and be part of the democratic process. It’s fun, nonpartisan, and you even get paid!

Join us in making sure our polls — and our democracy — are accessible to everyone who wants to cast their vote.

Sign up here: https://www.powerthepolls.org/wvcag

When you sign up, Power the Polls will direct you to the official poll worker application for your local jurisdiction. Once you submit your application, your local election administrator will contact you if your service is needed.

You can also sign up through the Secretary of State’s Office or by contacting your county clerk. The following counties are still looking for poll workers: Brooke, Harrison, Marion, Marshall, Monongalia, Ohio, Pleasants, and Raleigh.

Thank you for helping WV CAG recruit the next generation of poll workers to power our democracy!

WV CAG is proud of every single person who has signed up to work the polls to ensure voters can cast ballots during every election.

Our freedom to vote is foundational to our democracy. In July, WV CAG co-hosted a “John Lewis National Day of Commemoration and Action” event with our partners in the West Virginians for Democracy Coalition. The event celebrated the legacy of Rep. John Lewis and called on Congress to protect the freedom to vote in order to realize Rep. Lewis’ vision for a democracy that works for all of us.

Equal access to the ballot protects all of our rights. Tell Congress to pass comprehensive voting rights legislation to ensure everyone can have a voice in decisions about their futures, their communities and their families.
