‘Bad Idea Factory’ in Full Swing
Some of the most harmful proposals deal with criminal law. Not only are they doubling down on the failed war on drugs, but two different death penalty bills have been introduced in the Senate. Not satisfied that they did enough harm to trans youth during the last legislative session, there is yet another bill (SB 194) aimed at further restricting access to care to life-saving care for these vulnerable young people. There's also a transphobic ‘bathroom bill’ (HB 4806) seeks to prohibit trans youth from using school restrooms associated with their gender identity. More

Attend a Public Hearing on Net Metering – Mon. Jan. 22 @5:30 PM
The Public Service Commission will be holding a public hearing on case 23-0460-E-42T (Monongahela Power Company and The Potomac Edison Company) Monday, Jan. 22 at 5:30 pm. Along with a significant rate increase, this case includes a proposal to slash net metering credits in half. Citizens can attend the hearing in person at the PSC headquarters or virtually through Microsoft Teams. Two community events have also been scheduled for residents to come together to support solar. West Virginia Looses Veteran Environmental Movement Organizer
Norm Steenstra, Jr, a founder of West Virginia’s environmental movement and former director of WV Citizen Action, passed away at his in his home in Charleston on January 16, at the age of 72. Norm was a remarkable leader and mentor for many who remain active in West Virginia's environmental movement and others who are working to create a government that is open, honest and accountable to the needs of our communities. He leaves an outstanding legacy, but also a tremendous hole in our hearts. More
