Join the team: Volunteers / interns needed!

West Virginia Citizen Action Group & West Virginia Citizen Action Education Fund are in need of volunteers or interns to help with a variety of administrative, fundraising, and outreach tasks.  While we can’t offer pay, we can help students meet volunteer requirements or earn college credit, and can teach volunteers new skills.  We’re happy to work with anyone in any way we can to make this mutually beneficial for us and you!

Our office is based in Charleston, WV.  Some of our volunteer tasks can be done from afar.  We are seeking help in four different areas and have created volunteer/intern positions for each.  To apply, please send an email to ciera@wvcag.org stating which position(s) you are interested in and your availability; if you wish to use one or more of these opportunities as an internship for school requirements/credit, please submit your application by 5 pm, Wednesday May 8th.

Volunteer Administrative Assistant / Administrative Intern

Help us with the day-to-day administrative tasks that make our social change work possible! Optional:  learn about how to use a database to manage donors.

 

Requirements:  Basic computer skills & commitment to WV Citizen Action’s mission and values

Hours:  3-10 hrs/week

Potential tasks based on your skills & availability:

  • In-office tasks:
    • Receive and process donations
    • Scan / sort bills
    • Communicate messages to staff
    • Empty trash and tidy up kitchen and conference room
  • In-office OR remote (requires access to computer & internet) tasks:
    • Write and mail donor thank you notes
    • Data entry from event sign-ups and member surveys
    • Place office supply orders
    • Generate thank you lists and phone bank lists
    • Create event registration forms and surveys
    • Help clean up database and remove duplicate entries
    • Track registration for events
    • Misc. data entry

 


 

Volunteer Outreach Assistant / Outreach Intern

If you like talking to people and don’t mind the telephone, this is the perfect volunteer opportunity for you!  Help us reach out to community members about trainings and projects we’re working on, and help us raise money for our organization.  If you’re interested in nonprofits or organizing, this is a good way to get experience.  If you’re a seasoned veteran of such things… well, we’d love to have you too.

 

Requirements:  Basic computer skills & commitment to WV Citizen Action’s mission and values

Hours:  2-5 hrs/week

Potential tasks based on your skills & availability / all can be completed remotely with access to computer, internet, and phone:

  • Help recruit members by phone and/or follow up with people we’ve met at events
  • Call lists of community members to invite them to local events and trainings
  • Identify new donors
  • Make asks to recurring and new donors – in-person near you or via phone

 


 

Volunteer Graphic Designer / Graphic Design Intern / Artist

Use your graphic design skills for a good cause!  Help us promote social change events, communicate with our members and get our message across to the public.

 

Requirements:  Medium to advanced computer/graphic design skills, must have a computer (graphic design software is helpful but optional), must be committed to WV Citizen Action’s mission and values

Hours:  As needed – approximately 10 hrs/job

Potential tasks based on your skills & availability / all can be completed remotely with access to computer and internet:

  • Layout and design printed materials (newsletters, posters, cards)
  • Design banners, displays and schwag
  • Generate memes for social media
  • Help design and create larger signs and art pieces for events (optional)

 



Volunteer Social Media & E-Communications Manager / Communications Intern

Use your social media savvy to get the word out about events, urgent calls to action, political perspectives and more.  A good way to gain experience with social media promotion.

 

Requirements:  Basic computer skills & commitment to WV Citizen Action’s mission and values

Hours:  up to 5 hrs/week

Potential tasks based on your skills & availability / all can be completed remotely with access to computer and internet:

  • Post and promote updates, photos, live streams on Facebook and other social media
  • Create and promote our events via Facebook
  • Help promote posts from our partners
  • Help create e-blasts
  • Create and promote memes (optional)
  • Help design Facebook promotion strategies to advance our campaigns and increase our numbers of likes (optional)
