CALL TO ACTION: STAND UP TO BIG PHARMA, SUPPORT AFFORDABLE INSULIN
Every death caused by too-high insulin costs is a death too many. It’s time to choose PEOPLE over drug company PROFIT. For months we've been supporting the WV Team for Insulin Affordability on HB 4543, a great bipartisan bill that would cap insulin co-pays at $25. It would save hundreds or thousands of dollars per year for Type I Diabetics who depend on life-saving insulin. But on Monday, when the bill went to House Banking and Insurance, the pharmaceutical lobby came out in force. More

Veto of the Day: Tell Gov. Justice to Veto SB 543 & Keep Dangerous, Defective Vehicles off our Roads
When you buy a used car from a dealer, you expect it to be drivable. You also expect the dealer to disclose any problems with the vehicle because repairs could cost you thousands more. SB 543 changes that and allows the sale of "as is" cars. The law would also permit the sale of used, defective vehicles if the defects are "disclosed"--even though most consumers don't read the fine print--and the defects can be major ones that make the vehicle unsafe to drive. Help WV CAG Support Community Organizing
During the 2018 election cycle, local grassroots citizen groups knocked on over 22,000 doors before the election, learning from community members about important issues and educating voters on issues important to Citizen Action and our members. Your support is critical in order to build on this success in the upcoming legislative session and in preparation for the 2020 elections. We're excited about the groundswell of energy and grassroots activism in West Virginia right now, and we have a plan to harness that energy and support community organizing around the state. Are you with us?  If so, renew your membership and/or send a donation to WV Citizen Action today! More

Letter to Senator Capito Regarding Short-Term Limited-Duration Policies
WV CAG joined other advocacy organizations in sending a letter to Senator Capito regarding short-term limited-duration policies and their impact on insurance coverage, premiums, and federal spending. According to a report by the Urban Institute, as a result of repealing the individual mandate and expanding access to these so-called “short-term” plans, premiums will increase, and millions of people will lose access to comprehensive coverage, or lose coverage altogether. West Virginians cannot afford this scheme. We need Senator Capito to stand up for our state and stop the never-ending war on health care. More

Most E-Day Events Cancelled for Tomorrow, GREEN Jam Still On
The WV Environmental Council has made the decision to cancel E-Day tabling and speakers due to the ongoing teachers' strike. Today saw the largest crowds yet, and at one point the Capitol was closed to further visitors due to capacity concerns by Capitol Police and the State Fire Marshall. This is unprecedented. Of course folks are still welcome to come to the Capitol to lobby their legislators. If you decide to make the trip, arrive early if you can and be prepared to wait in line for at least and hour to get into the building. If you don't want to brave the crowds, the GREEN Jam will still be taking place at the Empty Glass starting at 4:30pm.   More

SB 600: Handouts to Industry at the Expense of the Rest of Us
SB 600 offers discounted electric rates to industrial users and manufacturers whose rates, like everyone’s, have continued to skyrocket in the past few years. However, someone is going to have to make up the cost of these discounts and, it’s not going to be the utility shareholders. The bill is on the fast track, having cleared two Senate committees in two days, and is now on the Senate floor where it will be up for a final vote on Tuesday. Call or email your Senators now and ask them to oppose SB 600. Tell them not to give manufacturers a discount on their electric bills at the expense of the rest of us.  More

Congress must produce a budget that moves us towards more opportunity for all, that safeguards and advances our basic living standards, and that protects our environment. More
