We need you to take two important actions. First, our Senators need to hear from you on their late pandemic response. Tell Senators Capito and Manchin that our families need robust support now. Second, in this time of crisis, we need clarity from state leaders about how we can cast our ballots safely in the upcoming election. Demand that Governor Jim Justice and Secretary of State Mac Warner protect our health and our right to vote by making this option available to all West Virginia voters again in the general election. More

West Virginia voters will elect three justices to the West Virginia Supreme Court in the upcoming primary election. WV Citizens for Clean Elections is excited to launch a new website, wvcourtelections.org, to help voters learn more about these elections and the judicial candidates. Our rights as voters, workers, parents, and community members depend on the decisions of our elected judges. It is imperative that we are better informed about our courts and the judicial candidates so that we can use our right to vote effectively. More

With the daily spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus in West Virginia, public and private entities are taking significant steps to prevent a flood of cases that would overwhelm our health care system. In this context, public health experts, homelessness advocates, criminal justice leaders, and other concerned individuals call on Gov. Jim Justice to use his executive authority to minimize the harm inflicted on inmates and correctional staff in West Virginia – and, by extension, the harm inflicted on our communities. More

Staring Down Crossover
The pace ramps up again as the legislature faces down the "drop dead" date of February 26th - Crossover Day - after which all bills not passed out of their house of origin are considered done for this year. That being said, bills can still be amended into other bills that have made the journey across and other parliamentary tricks can be engaged when leadership wants a bill to stay alive. Many terrible bills will expire on Wednesday along with several good ones we’ve been working, watching, and rooting for. More

Last week we hit day 30 of the 60 calendar day session. Committees are meeting earlier and lasting longer, and floor sessions are going on for hours as the work of the 2020 legislative session barrels toward several deadlines this month. There are now 1,340 bills introduced in the House, and 740 in the Senate. Crossover Day, when these bills must move out of their house of origin or die, is a little over two weeks away - February 26th. More
