Back from the grave of the regular 2019 legislative session, it regained life last month when Senate President Mitch Charmichael, resurrected it - much in the same form as the original, but with even harsher slaps at teacher strikes and organized labor. This is just a friendly reminder about tomorrow's (Monday, June 17th) student-led rally and teach-in in support of public education. Students, parents and community members who want to show solidarity with our hard-working teachers and school service personnel, please join us at 10 AM in front of the House chamber. We also wanted to let you know that Monday's planned actions against Rockwool have been rescheduled for Wednesday, June 19th. Please check this event's Facebook page for updates and locations. Veto of the Day: Tell Gov. Justice to Veto SB 543 & Keep Dangerous, Defective Vehicles off our Roads
When you buy a used car from a dealer, you expect it to be drivable. You also expect the dealer to disclose any problems with the vehicle because repairs could cost you thousands more. SB 543 changes that and allows the sale of "as is" cars. The law would also permit the sale of used, defective vehicles if the defects are "disclosed"--even though most consumers don't read the fine print--and the defects can be major ones that make the vehicle unsafe to drive. More

This end of the week update that is time sensitive. Several bad bills made it past Crossover Day and need to be stopped ASAP, while one bill expanding Medicaid coverage needs some help to pass. Both the House and Senate will be in session tomorrow (Saturday) so lawmakers will be at the Capitol at least through the morning. So please take a few minutes to make some calls before you get on with your weekend chores. Thanks! More

As the Senate was busy making the House’s (much better) version of SB 451 back into the horrible bill it started out as, teacher’s and school personnel leaders were on the Senate steps calling them all out on strike. Letter from Religious & Civic Leaders Opposing Anti-Immigrant Legislation
WV CAG joins West Virginia civic and religious leaders in standing against any laws that attack immigrants, who make our state a better place every day. We embrace the diversity immigrants bring to our state, and we reject any attempts to demonize or degrade immigrant communities in the Mountain State. We are alarmed by a by a rash of bills that have been introduced into the legislature this session targeting immigrants, and sent the following letter to House Speaker Roger Hanshaw to encourage him to do everything in his power to ensure that none of these outrageous attacks on our neighbors becomes law. More
