Congress Wants to Cut Food Stamps After Giving 1% a Big Tax Break
The partisan Republican farm bill isn’t fooling anyone: punishing kids, seniors, people with disabilities and low wage workers won’t get people back to work or help the economy just like tax breaks for the rich haven’t created jobs or helped the middle class. Instead, the current Republican SNAP proposals are designed to shrink the food stamp program so that Republicans can free up more money to pay for their massive tax giveaway. More

Stopping the Opioid Profiteers: How Policymakers & Communities Can Fight Back

The Foundation to Build a Proper Medical Cannabis Program in WV
SB 386, passed during the 2017 legislative session, laid the foundation to build a proper medical cannabis program in West Virginia. By 2019, doctors will be able to start issuing medical cards to patients and by January 2020 patients will be able to purchase medical cannabis products. This years fight is focused on decriminalization of marijuana and amending SB 386 to allow the purchase and use of flower, in addition to allowing patients to grow small amounts of cannabis in their homes. Without disclosure, we don’t know what conflicts of interest our judges may have
Without common-sense disclosure laws, anyone could end up across the courtroom from another other party who has given hundreds of thousands of dollars to a dark money group supporting the judge ruling on their case. And they wouldn't even have the information, to ask the judge to recuse himself or herself. More

Health Care Repeal Roller Coaster Rolls On
On January 1st it seemed inevitable that we would see the ACA repealed within months, if not weeks. Today, the public has little to no appetite for another attempt at repeal, and the Congress knows it. Health care as a right has entered the discussion, and grassroots groups around the country are growing in size and influence. We should be proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish, for it’s only the beginning of what is possible. More

Trump ‘fraud’ commission is a tool for voter suppression
The Presidential Election Integrity Commission has no credibility and is a pretext for voter suppression. This waste of government resources and invasion of our privacy is all being done in an attempt to suppress people’s right to vote.  West Virginians and our state officials should refuse to cooperate in any way with this sham commission. Budget Battle Over (For Now)
West Virginia dodged the bullet at the last possible moment. However, this is not a budget to celebrate. It cuts higher education and Medicaid and doesn’t raise enough new revenue to keep this annual fight over cuts v. revenue from playing out again next year and into the future. More
