Support HB 4543 for Affordable, Life Saving Insulin!
The WV legislature is considering a bipartisan bill, HB 4543, that would cap copays for life-saving insulin at $25 for a 30-day supply. Currently, the cost of insurance co-payments for insulin can exceed $600 per month. The average price of insulin nearly tripled between 2002 and 2013, and has continued to rise. As many as 1 in 4 diabetics, including many with insurance, have started rationing their insulin because of the higher prices. Rationing insulin can result in strokes, comas or even death. More

West Virginians Deserve Clean, Safe Drinking Water
The Clean Drinking Water Act of 2020 was introduced recently in the House by Delegate Hansen as HB 4542, and it’s counterpart in the Senate was introduced by Senator Ihlenfeld as SB 679. The Act aims to identify and reduce exposure to class of chemical toxins known as polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS. These substances are “forever chemicals” and accumulate in the environment. A main source of exposure to PFAS is through contaminated drinking water. More

Stand Up for Democracy
WV CAG and allies are opposing a bill before the legislature that would discourage peaceful protest and stop people from criticizing the powerful. HB 4615 would create new criminal and civil penalties for conduct around “critical infrastructure facilities” that could be applied to individuals and organizations involved in peaceful protest. Just like voting or contacting elected officials, peaceful protest is an important way for everyday people to influence how the government makes decisions about our air, water, and land; when we go to war; and other issues. The right to peacefully assemble is protected under the First Amendment and has been an important way to make change in the history of our country. More

Say No to Removing Regulations of Tanks Near Drinking Water Intakes
HB4079 exempts certain tanks used by the oil and gas industry from the Aboveground Storage Tank Act. This bill is particularly alarming because it deregulates tanks that are located closest to our public drinking water intakes! Tell members of the House Energy committee to protect our drinking water and reject HB4079. More

HB 2010, if signed into law by Governor Justice, will make DHHR turn child welfare and foster care over to a managed care organization (MCO); meaning our government would experiment with the lives of our most vulnerable kids and families by making our state the only one in the country to give a combination of Medicaid and child welfare funds to an MCO. Veto of the Day: Tell Gov. Justice to Veto SB 543 & Keep Dangerous, Defective Vehicles off our Roads
When you buy a used car from a dealer, you expect it to be drivable. You also expect the dealer to disclose any problems with the vehicle because repairs could cost you thousands more. SB 543 changes that and allows the sale of "as is" cars. The law would also permit the sale of used, defective vehicles if the defects are "disclosed"--even though most consumers don't read the fine print--and the defects can be major ones that make the vehicle unsafe to drive. More
