Attend the WV Freedom School!
West Virginia Citizen Action Group is co-sponsoring the American Friends Service Committee’s (AFSC) WV Freedom School, a three-day intensive workshop where young people ages 14-22 will learn about the history of race and racism in our country. Those attending will also learn how to do a power analysis of their community to understand how and why racism and racial inequality persist today. Most importantly, attendees will leave knowing how to organize in their school or community to help build and lead the movement in West Virginia. More

We need your help to reach our goal!
I’m sure you experienced some of the same feelings we did after the 2014 elections- disappointment, anxiety, disgust- and, of course, things went from bad to worse during the following legislative session. So many bad bills were introduced, it was hard to keep up with them all! Now is the time for us to really dig in and ramp up our efforts to reverse this attack on working families. Over the coming months we will be leading the efforts to engage voters and energize our progressive base. More

Week 5: Halfway
Thursday was the halfway point in this session and we are fast approaching the last day to introduce bills in the Senate (Monday, February 23) and House (Tuesday, February 24). So far 1,243 bills have been introduced. The week started with a great press conference on protecting our water with speakers from WV Environmental Council member groups, the WV Council of Churches, and Charleston NAACP - all calling for keeping our drinking water clean and safe, and opposing legislation to roll back protections. Our water warrior, Karan Ireland, moderated the event and gave a strong personal testimony to kick it off. More

An exciting week of events
Support Clean Water by Attending the public hearing on Monday February 16 at 8:30 am in the House of Delegates Chamber at the state capitol on House Bill 2289, a DEP bill that would reclassify the Kanawha River as a Catagory A drinking water source. This would allow a secondary drinking water intake to be built on the Kanawha River. Having a secondary intake would make the 300,000 people who depend on Charleston's water far less likely to lose their water again as they did last year. More
