What’s the Rush? – Legislative Session Kicks Off with a Bang
The legislative session started out with a BANG on day one as the Senate leadership promptly used their super majority to suspend the rules, ram through 23 bills and send them to the House. The House is moving mostly at the normal pace, but their Finance committee pulled a fast one on Thursday and added the governor’s 50% personal income tax cut to their agenda at the last minute and passed it out to the floor. More here, plus actions you can take, and resources for staying up to date. More

Advocates Call for Local & Legislative Action, Funding for Community Support Services to Address School Suspension Disparities

Why WV Needs A Medicaid Buy-In
The fight for accessible affordable health care in West Virginia is what Health Care for All WV is all about. Key to our efforts is the Medicaid Buy-In bill HB 3001. This bill would create a new affordable health insurance plan that would eliminate the “cliff effect” of those who are working and want to keep coverage while earning increased hours or increased pay, or who’s employers do not offer insurance coverage for their full-time employees. Unbearable Without the Child Tax Credit
With the elimination of the enhanced Child Tax Credit (CTC), 50,000 West Virginia children have been pushed back below the poverty line. West Virginia mothers are traveling to Washington, DC to share their stories with senators in front of 500+ teddy bears at the US Capitol. We hope the stories will be heard by the senate and inspire action by the federal government. You can help amplify their voices More

What A Taxing Week!
Conservatives are constantly harping about their desire for small local governance - except when they don’t. Too many examples this session to list them all but one of the whoppers is a proposed amendment to the WV constitution to give the Legislature more control over county property taxes with the intent to slash taxes paid by big, out of state corporations. The House is also debating an alternative to the Governor's income tax phase our that would devastate the state budget. More here on these and other updates from the 'Bad Idea Factory.' More

One Week to Go
Anti-protest bill HB 4615 (so-called protecting critical infrastructure) is now in Senate Judiciary. Calls to Chair Charles Trump are needed to ask him to ignore it and let it expire. Back-up messages to Judiciary members to vote no are also encouraged, if it does make the committee agenda. This is the bill that adds felonies and high fines tor those charged with civil disobedience (or even conspiracy to do so) at so-called "critical infrastructure" sites! More
